Holly’s Corner: “Bandwagon”

Bandwagon.  noun

1.        used in reference to an activity, cause, etc. that is currently fashionable or popular and attracting increasing support.

This word has come up a lot recently.  My son, Luke, was accused of getting on the Bulldog bandwagon.  Before turning 9, Luke was a Gator (even though his mom is FSU and his dad is UGA) and last year Luke switched to being a UGA Bulldog.  It makes sense for Luke to cheer for his dad’s team… FINALLY.  But the timing seems rather suspect, kind of like jumping on the Bulldog bandwagon.  The Bulldogs won the National Championship game in 2022 and are contenders for the 2023 game.  So why wouldn’t a 10-year-old, who likes winning, not jump on the bandwagon?!?!?  Plus we all look better in red & black vs. orange & blue! 

Yesterday I wore Jaguar print to the office.  Today I am in teal.  Am I on the Jaguar bandwagon train… yes.  100%.  However, I believed in our new coach, our new quarterback and the entire team early in the season.  I knew they needed to find their rhythm.  With my nails painted teal I splurged and got Luke and I tickets to Saturday’s game!  May this bandwagon continue. 

So what investment bandwagon are you trending to or away from in 2023?  Bonds?  Real Estate?  Crypto?  Oil?  Annuities?  Private Placements?  Structured Notes?  Permanent life insurance?  Definitely not the S&P 500.  And who feels good about International?  Jumping on the bandwagon of the talking heads on TV or your next-door neighbor can be reckless.
